The Good Intent Pub - Puttenham, Surrey

The Good Intent Public House is located in Puttenham, Surrey, on the pilgrims way between Guildford and Farnham, near the villages of, Wanborough, Shackleford and Compton.

The Good intent is a popular pub with Puttenham locals, being both child-friendly and dog-friendly and is also popular with the many visitors that travel to the area, to visit local landmarks and enjoy many of the fine walks and bike rides in the Surrey countryside. The good intent features a large inglenook fire place, wood beams through out making the Good Intent a really nice and cosy place to eat, drink or just hangout with your friends and family.

Please note: Although we are a ‘Child friendly pub’, due to the nature of the building it’s self we don't have facilities for infants. Please bear in mind that we are a traditional pub that does serve food, not a restaurant or a gastro pub and that the Good Intent is a pub that's still a pub and more of an adult environment, all children must be accompanied by responsible adult(s). Friendly and socialized dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times.

Events

The pub is the hub of Puttenham village life, and lays on many events, such as musical evenings, quiz nights, special gourmet evenings and beer festivals. The pub also has many sport and recreational clubs and societies, including a cycling club, Puttenham Football club, classic car club and even a golf society! So if your looking for a good time and to get involved come on down to the good intent and see what your missing out on.

Real Ale

The pub has been featured in the Campaign for real ale's Good Beer guide for well over 20 years and features three regular real ales: Otter Bitter, Sharp's Doombar and Timothy Taylor's Landlord. Every week, the Good Intent also offers three guest ales; this week's guest ales are featured on the Real Ale Page.

Food

Good pub food is available daily, including Sunday, where Sunday lunch is extremely popular (booking in advance is recommended). The menu includes homemade burgers and pies, scampi and fish and chips, although the chef likes to offer a mix of cosmopolitan dishes alongside the more traditional pub food. On the whole this is a pleasant little pub tucked away in the countryside. I went on a Friday lunchtime and the amount of cars parked along the main road (the car park is a little tricky) was a clue... at 12:15 the pub was packed and I plonked myself down at the last free table! The beer list made up for it with Harveys Best, Ringwoods Best and Timothy Taylor's Landlord as regulars, and Sharp's Cornish Coaster, Caledonian 80/- and Ringwoods Forty Niner as guests. Great to see a varied and regularly changing assortment of guest ales. Service was courteous and with only two bar staff on and so many patrons, they were doing a good job. Quite a varied food menu and average prices, so no wonder it's popular with diners.

I only get in here about once a year, but I wish it were more. A cracking pub - absolutely everything you could want. Good food, great beer (always in first class condition), friendly and efficient service, pleasant locals and a warm welcome for non-locals - all this and a blazing open fire too. Oh - and no piped music. Brilliant.
